May 04: Westside win Middlesex League Playoffs

In the Middlesex Womens playoffs, Westside women confirmed their dominance by adding the playoffs to the League title they won in March. On Saturday, the team started with a 25 point victory at Burlington Danes against the physical Pimilco Jets using their superior speed to augment their full court attack. The team then travelled to Isleworth to play the Richmond Jaguars, and once again, Westsides superior speed and stamina was a major difference in the game against their bigger opponents.

On Sunday, the women played the pivotal match against the guest team from East London and once again they raced into a lead with a pressing defence. However, the opposition used their size to dominate inside and brought the game almost level at 31-30 at halftime. After the break, Westside once again assumed control and established a 10 point lead but the opposition refused to give in and with 34 seconds left tied the score at 52. On the next possession, Westside drew a foul and made one of two foul shots with 15 seconds left. Needing one more defensive stand to secure the game, the teams defense held firm and forced the opposition into a three second violation which signified the end of the game. In the final game of the day, Westside played Chiltern and it was again a balanced performance with the lead growing to 25 in the fourth quarter to clinch the title for the team from Shepherds Bush.
