Oct 05: Westside triumph in Reading Westside travelled to Reading to face the Rockets as their league challenge begins to pick up momentum. The team from Shepherds Bush raced into the 8 point lead at the end of the first quarter as the home team failed to handle their superior speed. This continued in the second quarter with Westside in full offensive rythmmn as they continued to attacke Reading from all angles on offence to lead by 16 points at the half. At the start of the third, the home team came out to make a run of six unaswered points but Westside rallied a run of their own to take a 20 point lead at the end of the third. It was more of the same in the fourth as the lead grew to 25 but with the game in the bag, Westside relaxed a little for a final score of 78 - 93. The leading scorers were Daniel Worku with 25 points and Ola Odigan with 22 points. With fellow promotion rivals, East Kent losing at home, Westside moved to joint top of Division 3 South East with a 3 - 1 record. Coach Frank Lamptey commented "This was a consistent performance from everybody and there was balanced scoring as 4 guys scored double figures and we had a season high 22 assists which is an impressive statistic. To be honest, we are not performing at our optimum level so there is a lot of room for improvement offensively and defensively and we will have to make that adjustment if we are to achieve success this season". This weekend, Westside entertain London Capitals in a West London showdown
at Kensington Leisure Centre at 4pm.
