Jan 06: Westside beat Capitals 2 in OT On Saturday, Westside travelled to neighbours London Capitals for a West London showdown in the EBL Division 3. Looking to build on last weeks season high for points, Westside got off to an explosive start to leat 22 - 7 before the home team hit back with a couple of converted steals to lead 22 - 11 at the end of the first. Although Westside were domintating, their superiority was not always been converted into points as London Capitals began to chip away at the deficit and by the end of the third quarter, the lead was only 4 points. In the fourth, Westside lost their scoring touch as London Capitals took a 3 point lead but they regrouped to go on a 7 - 0 run to take the lead and with only 40 seconds left held a 4 point lead. Looking to run the clock, Westside missed an easy opportunity and Capitals took advantage and scored at the other end. With 15 seconds to go, Westside lost the ball again and the home team buoyed by their supporters scored again to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime, Westside gregained their composure to go on a 16 - 6 run in the extra 5 minutes to win the game and improve their league record to 7 - 4. Westside coach Frank Lamptey commented "This was a game that we had control of for the majority of the game but failed to finish in the closing stages. I'm glad that we were able to regain our poise in overtime but we need to overcome these lapses to become a better team" Leading scorers were Ola Odigan and Mark Shipley both with 23 points. On Saturday, Westside entertain their crosstown rivals, Hackney White Heat, in a game which could determine who qualifies for the end of season playoffs, at the Kensington Leisure Centre at 4pm.
