Jan 06: Westside lose Shield quarterfinal in Manchester On Saturday, Westside travelled to Yorkshire to play the Manchester Magic in the National Shield quarterfinals. With only six players available for selection, Coach Lamptey knew that it was going to be a back to the wall jobs but Westside took the early lead and maintained it until midway through the secound quarter when foul trouble and the lack of depth began to affect the team from Shepherds Bush as Manchester took an eleven point halftime lead. In the third, Westside came out aggressive and cut the lead to four but inconsistent officiating curbed their momentum as the fouls piled up and even Coach Lamptey had to make an appearance on the court as one of the players suffered a broken wrist. The lead was 14 points in the last quarter and they battled back once again to cut it to 8 but with two players fouling out, it was never going to be their day and the final score was 83 - 60. The leading scorers for Westside were Daniel Worku (18) and Patrick Omigie (17). Westside Coach Frank Lamptey commented "It was a strange game today but we didn't play to our potential which was disappointing. We'll just have to bounce back next week."
