Feb 06: Westside push for playoffs with win over Hackney Westside entertained Hackney White Heat on Saturday, looking to avenge their 2 point loss in October and maintain their playoff push. The away team started brightly and lead 7 - 1 but Westside settled into the game and began running their offence efficently to open a 5 point lead at the end of the first quarter. However, it was never going to be a free flowing game with both officials whistle happy and blowing fouls nearly every minute as both teams combined to shoot 81 foul shots in the game. The crucial moment came in the fourth quarter as Hackney rallied to take a 1 point lead. However, seconds later the fire alarm at the sports hall sounded and there was a 20 minute game delay. After the interval, it was Westside who came out stronger as they went on a 12 - 2 run which effectively killed the game and the final score was 92 - 80. Leading scorers for Westside were Ola Odigan with 24 and Daniel Worku with 22 points. Westside Coach Frank Lamptey commented " It was a strange game with too many fouls called but I'm just gald that we got the win" Next week, Westside travel to play London Towers 2 in a must win game
as they bid for promotion.
