Feb 05: Westside bounce back with double victories over Reading and South Notts Last weekend saw Westside involved in a doubleheader as they entertained South Nottingham Wildcats on Saturday and travelled to Reading for a showdown with the Rockets on Sunday. Eager to bounce back from last weeks disappointing loss to Solent Stars, Westside came out very aggresively in the first quarter to establish a 5 point lead but the visitors hit back to lead at the end of the first quarter by 1. In the second and third quarters, Westside just took over the game playing intense defence and to open up a 22 point lead at the end of the third quarter. Westside took their foot off the gas a little in the final quarter but still ran out winners 74 - 61. The leading scorer was Daniel Worku with 27 points (7 three pointers ), though still recovering from an ankle injury. Coach Lamptey commented "This was a clinical performance by our team especially in the second and third quarters and it was good to get a win today against one of the divisions top teams" On Sunday morning, Westside travelled down the M4 to Reading and obviousl were still feeling the effects of the previous days exertions as they started off very slowly and only led by 5 points at halftime. Their malaise continued in the third until 4 minutes remaining as they went on a scoring run which broke the game open and saw the win by 18 points 92 - 74. The games leading scorer was Andrew Mayers with 22 points. Coach Frank Lamptey commented "This was a tired performance today but the result was more important than the performance so I can't be too down". These victories leaves Westside tied at the top of the division with Solent with 12 wins and 2 losses but behind on points difference with 4 games remaining in the regular season.
