Dec 05: Westside progess in National Shield

Westside eased into the quarterfinals of the National Shield with an emphatic 43 point away victory over the Bedford Bulls. Westside lead by only 11 at halftime but exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Bedford 28 - 10 to break open the game. Indeed, it was a thunderous dunk by Ola Odigan which energized the team into playing stifling defence and attacking the hoop on offense. Led by Patrick Omigie and Daniel Worku, Westside continued their attack in the fourth with the lead growing to as much as 49. The final score was 70 - 113. The leading scorers were Ola Ogidan with 33 points and Daniel Worku with 24 points.

Coach Frank Lamptey commented " This was a good performance and just what we needed before our showdown with East Kent next week. 6 guys scored in double figures and we had a balanced attack throughout the game"

Next week, Westside travel to Canterbury in a must win game to revive their title ambitions against the leaders, East Kent Crusaders.
