Dec 03:
Westside 1 maintain their 100 % record
Westside 1 maintained their unbeaten record in the Middlesex Premier League with a 78 - 63 victory over Brunel Beacons at Burlington Danes to extend their record to 9 - 0. After a shaky start, Westside established their dominance in the first quarter behind some fine perimeter shooting by Clayton Childs and Mattew Williams to open up a 12 point lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the home side relax a little as Brunel battled their way back into the game but Westside responded with eight unanswered points at the end of the quarter to maintain their advantage. The game continued to be evenly fought until the start of the fourth when Brunel managed to cut the defecit to 4 points. However, Westside responded with increased defensive intensity to restore their lead back to 15 points and that was the final margin of victory. Coach Frank Lamptey commented "Today was a standard performance and I felt we did just what we needed to do win. I had the opportunity to play one of our promising juniors from the under 16's team (James Aymers) and felt he did well in the limited court time he saw". The victory concludes the teams record in the Middlesex League this year as they continue to set the standard for basketball in the Middlesex area. The team has won lost only one game in the Middlesex League this calendar year but their attantion switches to their defence of the National Founders Cup as they entertain the Met Police in the Regional group stages.
